Jefferson Men's and Women's Cross Country Participated in the 2019 Mid State Athletic Conference Championship Meet this past weekend.
The Cannoneer cross country teams traveled to Finger Lakes Community College this past weekend for the 2019 Mid-State Athletic Conference Championship. 5 of the 11 runners ran season bests over the hilly tough course.
The women's race saw the Lady Cannoneers battling it out with number 10 nationally ranked Corning runners and they matched up runner for runner right from the beginning. Alannah Cook (24:08) went to the front early in the race and ran comfortably at the front and seemed to be in charge through the first half of the race while Madison Neukirch (24:30) steadily made her way up and stayed in contact with the lead pack. Shania Spicer (26:56) found herself in a gap between the front pack and the rest of the field while she traversed the hills by herself while Maddi Sochia (28:21) and Hannah Neukirch (28:33) maneuvered the course together, they were followed by a strong performance by Erica Dixon (34:51). The Lady Cannoneers finished as MSAC Runner-Ups as the Corning Red Barons edged them out for the win 29-26.
The men's race saw strong seasonal performances by several Cannoneer runners. The men ran a strong race and packed together pretty well through the first half of the race. The third mile with some rolling hills took its toll on some of the runners. The Cannoneers where lead by Noah Newton (37:09) and was followed closely by Jacob Maloney (38:25). They were followed by Henry Chen (39:05), Oscar Middleton (39:23) Scott Matthews (56:50).
The Cannoneer Cross Country teams head back to Finger Lakes Community College for the NJCAA Region III championships next Saturday.
