Lady Cannoneers Hold Off Herkimer 85-80
Jefferson women's basketball team edged by the Lady Generals on Friday with a 85-80 win.
The Jefferson Women's Basketball team traveled to Herkimer to take on the Generals in a match up that would affect National Rankings. The Cannoneers and Generals were in a back and forth first quarter before Herkimer took a 2-point lead on a 4-0 run. The generals led most of the second quarter before the Lady Cannoneers went on a 6-0 run to take a 52-48 lead in the half. Jefferson matched basket for basket in the third to keep a lead heading into the 4th quarter. They took the lead with 4:40 left in the game on a Kim DiLeonardo 3 point shot, Herkimer would then tie it with a free throw, before the cannoneers took the lead with a 6-0 run in the last 2 minutes. JCC controlled the tempo and hit free throws down the stretch to seal the 85-80 road win. Brooke Wiley and Abby Bombard led the Cannoneers with 27 and 26 points, respectively. Jakayla Spence Score 8 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. The Cannoneers move to 4-1 on the season.
