Cannoneer Women’s Basketball Opens Up the 2022-2023 Season With a Strong Start
Lady Cannoneers open up their season with a win against UConn Avery and a loss to Jamestown.

On Saturday, November 5th, The Jefferson Women's Basketball program opened up its season by hosting The Cannoneer Classic, a tip-off style tournament that featured Jefferson, UConn Avery Point, Bronx, and Jamestown.
The Cannoneers started the season strong with a convincing 86-54 win over UConn Avery Point. The Cannoneer offense featured six players scoring double digits in their balanced attack to beat the Huskies. The team was led by Emily Farrand, who netted 17 points followed by Shakera Fullenwilder with 14, KJ Belmore and Gabrielle Morley each with 11, and Kalyna Bryant with 10 points. The team also tabbed 18 assists and 20 steals in the competition.
The team then moved on to the championship game of the tournament where they fell just short in a three point deficit (73-70) to Jamestown, an NJCAA DII competitor. In the championship game of the Cannoneer Classic, Gabrielle Morley led the team with 25 points, followed by Emily Farrand with 13, and KJ Belmore with 11. The Cannoneers fought hard in the second half of the game to erase a 16 point deficit, but failed to win the game in the final minutes.
The program will host its first Region III matchup of the season on Saturday, 11/22/22 against a fellow MSAC member, Corning.
