Jefferson Women’s Basketball Holds on to Defeat Jamestown 71-64
Jefferson holds on to defeat Jamestown.
The Cannoneers jumped out to an early lead in the first minutes of the game, ending the first quarter with a 23-8 lead. The team was able to jumpstart the offense with multiple defensive stops that led to transition buckets, thanks to a strong defensive effort. A mighty second quarter by the Jayhawks had the halftime score 34-31 in favor of Jefferson. The Jayhawks were able to close the gap by outscoring the Cannoneers 23-11 in the second.
The third and fourth quarters proved to be far more even with Jefferson winning both 16-15 and 21-18 respectively for a compiled, final score of 71-64 in favor of the Cannoneers.
The Jefferson team was led by Gabrielle Morley who led all scorers in the game with 22 points. It was another balanced attack as nine members of the team contributed to the scoring efforts. Emily Farrand chipped in 11 points of her own while Hailey Cunningham and Torie Moore each added 10 points.
The team showed a strong rebounding effort, totaling 45, led by Kalyna Bryant with 9, Torie Moore with 8, and Hannah Malbouf with 7. Josie Barton and Emily Farrand each had 4 assists and Hailey Cunningham and Torie Moore each had 3 steals. The Cannoneers were able to force the Jayhawks into 35 turnovers.
The team will play in a tournament at Niagara Community College on December 18th and 19th to close out the first semester tour.
