The Women's Basketball team split a pair of home games against undefeated programs, as they hosted Bryant and Stratton of Syracuse on Tuesday and Herkimer Community College on Thursday. The team saw their first loss of the season against a very strong Bryant and Stratton of Syracuse team, and rallied on Thursday to knock off the undefeated Herkimer team.
Hailey Cunningham Shines in First Start of the Season
Hailey Cunningham scored 12 points for the Cannoneers in her first start of the 2021-2022 season, matched by Torie Moore, who recorded a double-double on the game, with 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Women's Basketball Team took on an undefeated, Bryant and Stratton of Syracuse team in a non-conference game at home and fell short, despite a strong effort from many players. The final score of the game was 73-62 in favor of the Bobcats. Hannah Malbouf netted 10 points while Emily Farrand and Kalyna Bryant each chipped in 8 points of their own. "We played a tough game against a very good 4 year school, and the team faught hard until the very end. Josie Barton stepped up and provided a great defensive effort for us in the second half. I am very proud of Hailey Cunningham for her performance" said Coach Tim Lamay of the loss.
Women's Basketball Rallies to Win After Trailing by 18
The Cannoneers hosted Herkimer Community College, ranked 12 and 10 respectively in national polls, in a home game on Tuesday, 11/18/21. The team trailed by as many as 18 points before outscoring the Generals 32-16 in the fourth quarter to come from behind and knock off the undefeated Herkimer team. The Cannoneers were led in scoring by Josie Barton who netted 23 points, followed by Gabrielle Morley who cashed in 11 of her own. Hannah Malbouf, Jessica Harris, and Torie Moore each score 9 points, followed closely by Hailey Cunningham who scored 7. "The Herkimer win was huge for us. The team showed resiliency and effort to come back after being down 18. The Herkimer program is strong, and we did a good job in the fourth quarter and found a way to win. I am very proud of all of them that stepped up to get the job done" said Coach Tim Lamay of the Cannoneers win over Herkimer.
