The Women's Basketball program had a successful, season-opening weekend, as they went 2-0 after taking on Region 3 opponents in Adirondack Community College and Hudson Valley Community College. The Cannoneers showed their depth while having 12 athletes score over the weekend of games.
Jefferson – 57, Adirondack – 36
Freshman Kalyna Bryant led the home team with 9 points, while Hannah Malbouf and Emily Farrand chipped in 8 and 7 points respectively. The team outrebounded their opponent 62-43 led by Torie Moore grabbing 12 rebounds of her own. Both teams got off to a slow start, only scoring a total of 11 points in the first quarter. As the home-opener continued, Jefferson was able to pull away in the second half to grow and maintain a steady lead. Emily Farrand also added a game-high 6 steals in the contest.
"Our team was tested early in the game as we played through some offensive struggles, but we were able to figure some things out as the game went on. I was very pleased with our defensive and rebounding efforts" said head coach Tim Lamay of the team's first game of the 2021-2022 season.
Jefferson - 46, Hudson Valley – 35
Gabrielle Morley led all scorers in the Cannoneer's second game of their home-opening weekend, scoring 13 points. Three other women's basketball players scored in double digits as Kalyna Bryant and Jessica Harris each scored 12 points, and Hannah Malbouf chipped in 10 of her own. Gabrielle Morley and Hannah Malbouf each tally a double-double with also adding 11 rebounds each to their stat lines. The Cannoneers out rebounded the Vikings 69-42.
"I thought our team did a great job of defending and playing our style against Hudson Valley. We were really able to show our depth as 11 players played in the first half and 4 athletes scored in double digits in the game. This was a fun weekend for our program" said Lamay, the head coach for the women's basketball program.
The team will travel to Mohawk Valley to take on the Mountain Valley Conference program on Wednesday, 11/10 at 5:00.
