The Lady Cannoneers Surpass the Lady Hornets
The Jefferson Women's Basketball team continues their winning streak with a win against SUNY Broome.
This past Saturday the Lady Cannoneer's traveled down I81 for a Mid-State Athletic Conference showdown with Broome Community College. The first matchup of the year between familiar foes didn't disappoint. Jefferson battled a slow start, and a touch of foul trouble in the first half. Broome took an early four point lead into the second quarter, and a one point lead into the halftime break. Jefferson would flip the script at the defensive end in the second half, and focus on their ball pressure and rebounding to limit Broome to just 20 points in the half.
Jefferson's offense was led by sophomore guard Ashlyn Eyles and her 22 points. Alyson Crosby, and Chelsey Raven chipped in 16 and 11 respectfully. "We have to focus on our ability to defend the basketball, and rebounding for us to play well right now." stated Coach Woodward "We didn't do that in the first half, and it showed. We defended and rebounded the ball well in the second half, and we could make a comeback. Everyone is starting to come into their own, and hopefully be comfortable with their roles and what we need them to do to win. I'm proud of everyone's resilience and how hard my kids compete." Jefferson will travel to Tompkins-Cortland CC on Wednesday January 29th for their second matchup of the season. Jefferson walked away with a 66-56 victory in November.
