Jefferson Softball Keep on Bringing Home the Wins

Jefferson Softball heads to Finger Lakes Community College to take on the Lakers in a doubleheader.  Despite falling down 1-0 early, the Cannoneers rallied for 4 runs in the top of the second inning with RBIs from Kiannah Ward, KJ Belmore, Hailey Cunningham, and Emily Birmingham.  The Jefferson offense kept piling on runs with one more in the 4th, and a 9 spot in the 5^th inning. Lily Gray lined an RBI single into right for 2 insurance RBIs to secure a 14-3 Jefferson win in game 1.  An impressive 9 different Cannoneers drove in RBIs in the game as Hailey McGrew also drove in 3 RBIs. 

Game 2 was a much closer contest.  Once again Jefferson fell behind early, however, this time 2-0.  The offense battled back in the first to cut the lead in half off an RBI double by Rachael Shackleton. The Cannoneers would tie the game in the third inning as Brooke Beleza drove a double to score Birmingham.  Rachael Shackelton stayed hot and gave Jefferson the lead in the 4^th with the third straight two out single in the inning to score Birmingham once again.  With game close at 3-2 entering the bottom of the 6th, Emily Birmingham hit an RBI single that scored Hailey Cunningham, and would later score on a throwing error giving the Cannoneers 2 much needed insurance runs entering the 7^th inning.  In the top of the 7th, the Lakers had runners on the corners with 2 outs down by 3 when Roberts drove a ball that got passed the diving glove of Belmore in right all the way to the corner.  Jefferson was able to formulate a huge relay home to get Roberts at the plate and win the game 5-4 with an exciting finish.
