Birmingham Throws a No-Hitter in Win Against Jamestown
Lady Cannoneers take 2 from the Lady Jayhawks!
The Cannoneers host the Jayhawks in the home opener for the season looking to build off their previous sweep. The Jefferson offense was off to a good start in the bottom of the first inning plating 3 runs off a Rachael Shackleton single and a Kiannah Ward sac fly. However, the offense would go cold until the latter half of the game. The Jayhawks would tighten the game 3-2 until Torie Moore and KJ Belmore combine to knock in a huge insurance run. The bottom of the 5th saw the Cannoneers plate 6 runs to end the game in 5 innings. Hailey McGrew also tallied two RBIs in the game. Shackleton was strong in the circle recording an impressive 14 strikeouts to help win game 1, 10-2.
Emily Birmingham dominated in game 2 pitching a no hitter to continue her hot stretch of pitching. Birmingham struck out 10, and allowed just two baserunners off of an error and a HBP. The offense was hot and put up a crooked number in every frame. 8 of the 9 Jefferson batters drove in runs in the game, and Birmingham and Shackleton combined for an impressive 7 for 8 day at the plate. Kiannah Ward also drove in 2 runs on 2 hits. The Cannoneers would take control of game 2 as well, winning 13-0 in 5 innings.
