Jefferson Softball Fall to the Undefeated Lady Red Barons
Jefferson softball lose to the Corning Lady Red Barons in a doubleheader.
SUNY Jefferson Cannoneers Softball Team hosted the NJCAA Division III 3rd ranked Corning Lady Red Barons in a double header on Saturday. Game 1 would be scoreless through the first four innings. In the top of the 5th Corning would score two runs against the Cannoneers off starting pitcher Sarah Johnson via a homerun by Corning's clean-up hitter Lexi Wood. Jefferson would answer back with a run of their own in the bottom of the 5th courtesy of a one out double by Leah Briones and an RBI single by Isabella Soluri. Corning would add two more in the top of the 7th. Jefferson would get the first two batters on in the bottom of the 7th but were unable to score them and game 1 ended 4-1. Emily Beck had two of the Cannoneers 6 hits.
In game 2 Corning opened the scoring in the bottom of the 2nd inning by plating 2 runs against Jefferson's starting pitcher Georgia Barton. The Cannoneers would tie the score in the top of the 4th on a lead-off double by Isabella Soluri, and RBI single by Kaylee Johnson, and a Logan Kirchoff groundout. The Lady Red Barons would retake the lead in the bottom of the 5th scoring 3 runs. Corning added 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th upping the score to 9-2. The Cannoneers would attempt to mount a comeback in the top of the 7th by stringing together 4 hits, but the rally would ultimately fall short as Corning won by a score of 9-5. Izzy Soluri was 2-3 with 2 doubles and Kaylee Johnson was 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI for the Cannoneers.
