The Jefferson softball team traveled to Maryland for two double headers to open their season this past weekend. Saturday against Anne Arundel Jefferson came out on top with a 5-2 and a 13-1 victory. Lauren Labiendo lead the offense going 2 for 3. Mary Young and Jordan Miller powered in two runs each. In game two Paige Morgia went 2 for 4 including a home run and scored three times. Jane Judware went 2 for 4 with a home run giving her team 4 RBI's. Freshman pitchers Brooke LaLone and Haley Riley registered their first collegiate wins. With a combined total of 3 hits the first game and 3 hits the second game.
On Sunday the team faced Prince George Community College. Game one went to Jefferson with a 12-4 victory. LaLone had her first solo victory allowing only 3 hits. Lauren Labiendo, Kate Gehrke, and Jane Judware all went 3 for 4. LaLone helped herself out by going 2 for 2. Gehrke also registered in her first home run of the season giving her team a total of 6 RBI's. Mary Young went 2 for 3 registering 2 RBI's. in game two Jefferson took the victory winning 9-4. Haley Riley went the distance throwing all seven innings. Offense was powered by Morgia adding another home run and going 3 for 5. Miller added 3 RBI's. Jenna Ferlito added to the win by scoring twice and throwing a runner at the plate.
