The Cannoneers Compete at the Torchia Classic
The Jefferson Men's Basketball competed in the 15th Annual Anthony Torchia Memorial Classic
The Cannoneers opened their season against Division II Pasco Hernado State College from Florida and came out on the short end of an 86-75 score. The game was close throughout with Pasco taking their largest lead of the game by 14 in the second half. The Cannoneers hurt themselves by shooting 50% from the FT line and committing 22 TO's. Deshawn Cann led the way with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 3assists. TJ Jones added 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Javon Hunter and Ismaeel Safo each contributed 11 points.
The Cannoneers played in the consolation game against Queensborough CC from New York City and came out flying. The Cannoneers held Queensborough to 4 points in the first 10 minutes of the game and were ahead 29-4. The rest of the half saw the teams play a slighty more even game as the Cannoneers were up 54-32 at half. The second half was more of the same as the cannoneers extended their lead into the 40's and ended up winning by the final score of 108-64. Leading the way for the Cannoneers was Derick Simpson with 21 points and TJ Jones with 20 points and 9 reb. Also aiding to the Cannoneers cause was Christian Rohler with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 6 blocks. Deshawn Cann chipped in with 13 points, 7 assists and Ismaeel Safo also contributed with 10 points. A great team effort was seen by the Cannoneers in this game. Deshawn Cann was named to the All-Tournament team for his steady play in the 2 day tournament.
