Cannoneers Skate Past Bobcats with Convincing 5–2 Victory
Jefferson defeat the Bobcats
WATERTOWN, N.Y. — The Cannoneers returned to home ice this past weekend and delivered a spirited performance against their rivals, the Paul Smith's College Bobcats. In front of an energized crowd who braved the snow to attend, the Cannoneers showcased both offensive firepower and defensive resilience, skating away with a decisive 5–2 win to close out the semester on a high note.
The opening period set the tone for the night. Just minutes into the game, forward Owen Bismark lit the lamp to give the Cannoneers an early advantage. His goal was quickly followed by another from Owen Ebersol, whose sharp wrist shot found the back of the net to make it 2–0. The Bobcats, however, refused to go quietly. With less than two minutes remaining in the period, they capitalized on a defensive lapse and slipped one past the Cannoneers' goaltender, cutting the lead in half. The first intermission arrived with the Cannoneers holding a narrow 2–1 edge.
The second period was a battle of momentum, with both teams trading chances and testing each other's resolve. The Cannoneers' penalty kill unit stood tall against a determined Bobcats attack, and midway through the frame, opportunity struck. On the power play, Dylan Johnson found space in the slot and buried a shot to restore the two-goal cushion. His tally electrified the bench and gave the Cannoneers a 3–1 lead heading into the final period.
The third period began much like the first—with Owen Bismark once again making his presence felt. His second goal of the night extended the lead to 4–1 and put the Cannoneers firmly in control. The Bobcats managed to claw back with a goal of their own, narrowing the margin to 4–2, but any hopes of a comeback were quickly dashed. Moments later, Kellan Duffy sealed the victory with a perfectly placed shot, the proverbial icing on the cake, securing the 5–2 final score. Presley Patrin played great in the victory for JCC who enters the break with a record of 15-4.
Beyond the scoreboard, the Cannoneers' performance was marked by disciplined play, strong puck movement, and a commitment to team defense. The win not only reinforced their dominance over a familiar rival but also provided momentum heading into the winter break.
The Cannoneers will return to action on January 12th, opening the new semester with a highly anticipated rematch against Thomas College. With confidence riding high and their offense firing on all cylinders, the team will look to build on this victory and continue their push for a strong season finish.
