Cannoneers Bounce Back, Take Down Niagara 4–2 for First Win of the Weekend
Cannoneers get past Niagara.
The JCC Cannoneers came out with something to prove on Saturday in Saranac Lake, taking down the Niagara University Purple Eagles 4–2 to earn their first win of the weekend.
First Period:
After a tough 6–1 loss the night before to a strong Bishops University squad, the Cannoneers were eager to respond — and they wasted no time doing so.
JCC exploded out of the gate, scoring three goals in the first eight minutes to jump out to a 3–0 lead. Mason Savage, Mason Jeeves, and Dylan Johnson each found the back of the net during the early offensive surge.
Niagara answered back midway through the frame, cutting the lead to 3–1, and then capitalized again just a few minutes later to pull within one. Despite the pushback, JCC held their ground and went into the first intermission with a 3–2 lead.
Second Period:
With the score tight, the Cannoneers looked to regain the same energy that fueled their hot start. Both sides battled hard through a scoreless stretch filled with multiple end-to-end chances.
Finally, with just under three minutes remaining in the period, captain Cam Winebar buried a huge insurance marker to make it 4–2 and swing momentum back in JCC's favor heading into the final frame.
Third Period:
Entering the third up by two, the Cannoneers' game plan was simple — lock things down defensively and protect the lead.
Goaltender Avery Zenger was rock-solid between the pipes, turning aside 35 shots in a standout performance. Though neither team would score in the third, the pace remained intense, with the Cannoneers grinding out every shift and closing the game with disciplined, high-effort play.
Final Score: JCC Cannoneers 4 – Niagara Purple Eagles 2
After a tough loss the previous afternoon, JCC bounced back in a big way — combining early offensive firepower with gritty defensive play to secure a statement win. The Cannoneers showed resilience, structure, and heart, proving they're not a team that stays down for long.
