Jefferson Falls to Hofstra Pride in a Shootout
Jefferson loses to Hofstra in a shootout.
The Hockey team traveled out to rival Paul Smiths rink to play in the annual Burning Leaves Tournament. The first game for JCC and also for the whole tournament was versus Hofstra. Hofstra came hot out of the gate opening up with 3 unanswered goals in the first. Despite Jefferson putting up a good 12 shots on the Hofstra goalie they could not seem to find the back of the net. First period ended 3-0 in Hofstra's favor.
The Cannoneers came out with some energy in the second with a quick goal from Freshman Defenseman Kellan Duffy. Duffy placed the puck beautifully and beat the goalie high blocker side. The goal was set up by an amazing feed from Freshman Quinn Carey who got the puck from Freshman Owen Bismarck, both players were credited with an assist. Second period concludes 3-1 Hofstra.
Similar to the second, JCC came out hot into the third determined to battle back into this game. Two JCC goals were scored both 36 seconds apart from each other! The first was scored by Owen Vanbrocklin and the second was by Captain Cameron Winebar on the powerplay. Both goals were assisted by Carson Barrett. Regulation ends tied at 3.
The Cannoneers played lockdown defensively in the second, third, and overtime to send the game into a shootout. Unfortunately, JCC did not convert on any of their 3 chances and Hofstra scored on their last.
The shootout loss goes into the record books as a tie. Leaving JCC with a 2-1-1 record as they look to face Embry-Riddle tomorrow in the second and final game of the Burning Leaves Tournament.
