Jefferson Hockey falls to Division 2 Niagara University
Jefferson Hockey suffers loss to Niagara University.
Game 3: Sunday September 22nd Niagara University vs. JCC at Dwyer Arena
The Jefferson Community College Hockey team traveled out to Dwyer Arena to face off against D2 opponent Niagara University in a non league game. JCC opened up the scoring when Freshman Owen Vanbrocklin buried his first career collegiate goal on the penalty kill. Niagara answers quickly on the powerplay to put the score even at 1. First period ends all square.
The second period was all Niagara on the scoring side as they buried two even strength ones at the 18 minute mark and the 6 minute mark. Jefferson still kept up the effort though totaling 10 shots this frame. Second period ends 3-1 Niagara.
In the final period it was a back and forth showing from both teams. Niagara opened up scoring. Followed by a Cannoneer goal by Assistant Captain Jack Mills, assists credited to Kellan Duffy and Owen Bismarck. Then Niagara converts on a 2 on 1 with 2 minutes left to play to finalize the score at 5-2.
A takeaway from the game was that the Jefferson Cannoneers can compete with any top level school and we look forward to hosting Niagara University on October 27th.
