Jefferson Baseball Lose in Extra Innings to the Red Barons
Jefferson Baseball fall on the road to the Corning Red Barons.
Game 1 of Saturday's double-header at Corning Community College resulted in heartbreak for the Cannoneers. Corning got off to a hot start with 2 runs in the bottom of the first inning. JCC went up by 1 run in the 7th, but Corning struck back to send it into extra innings. Corning would go on to win in the 9th inning with 2 outs and a runner on third base from a soft-hit ball in between the third baseman and pitcher where it would have taken a barehanded field and throw to get the runner at first. Starting Pitcher Juan Reynoso settled in to earn 8 strikeouts through 4 innings pitched. Reynoso also collected 2 hits and 1 run batted in at the plate, as well as a stolen base. Lachlan Rees provided 2 hits and 2 runs batted in. Keegan Poste and Anthony Martinez both stole a base as well.
Game 2 of Saturday's double-header at Corning was another close, hard-fought game between the Cannoneers and Red Barons. Starting pitcher Connor O'Donnell pitched all 6 innings for JCC, only allowing 1 earned run, striking out 2, and allowing 2 hits. Despite O'Donnell's effort on the mound, he received no run support which resulted in the 2-0 loss. Lachlan Rees and Juan Reynoso lead the slim Cannoneers offense again, with 2 hits and 1 hit respectively. Dakota Corbett-Bean worked a walk to add to his team-leading total of 12 walks on the season.
