The Cannoneers opened their 2021 season with a double-header at Finger Lakes Community College. This game was the first for baseball in 682 days. FLCC got out to an early lead with an inside-the-park home run in the first to the deep right-center field gap. The Cannoneers struck back with an RBI single by Victor Garcia scoring Anthony Martinez. From there the Lakers tacked on runs from the third inning on, while the Cannoneers got runners on base each inning, they just couldn't produce runs. William Simkin and Juan Perez both supplied hits, while Anthony Martinez walked twice, stole third base, and scored a run. On the mound, Nathan Doremus pitched four innings, giving up four earned runs and striking out five.
Game 2: 7-0 Loss
Game two of the double-header was fast paced and a tight game until the sixth inning. Starting pitcher Anthony Martinez pitched five solid innings, only allowing one earned run while striking out one. Nathan Doremus had a multi-hit game with two, while Juan Reynoso, William Simkin, and Lachlan Rees each collected one hit apiece. The Cannoneers trailed 2-0 heading into the sixth inning when the Lakers opened up their lead by scoring five runs. The Cannoneers are back in action this upcoming weekend with a home-and-home series with Mohawk Valley Community College.
