Cannoneers Sweep Utica JV at Home

The Cannoneers on a bye weekend filled their schedule with a DH versus the Utica College Junior Varsity Team. After a 2-2 week versus Mohawk Valley, the Cannoneers look to stay sharp before entering next week with eight divisional games in six days.

Game 1: Utica JV 6 – JEFFERSON 16

The Cannoneers would use two big innings to provide enough offense to put up 16 runs and end game one in six innings. Leading the Cannoneers was sophomore shortstop Hunter Thomas, who ended game one going 4-4 at the plate with 2 runs scored, 3 doubles, a homerun, and 5 RBI. Sophomore Mathew Ardizzi, and freshmen Nathan Carinci, and Zachary Catlin would also contribute 2 hits apiece.

On the mound sophomore Joel Reynoso would earn his second win of the season pitching 4 innings, striking out 4, and only walking 2. Sophomore Christian Jorden pitched 2 scoreless innings in relief.
 

Game 2: Utica JV 7 – JEFFERSON 10

The Cannoneers would find themselves down 5-0 early before putting up 8 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sophomores Killian Ladue and Mathew Ardizzi provided 2 hits while freshmen John Andrews and Victor Christiansen also chipped in 2 hits. Sophomore Eder Hernandez also provided a 2 RBI double.

On the mound five different Cannoneer pitchers were used in the winning effort. Sophomore Edward Corniel would pitch 2 scoreless innings to earn his first collegiate win while freshmen Jon Mele would also provide a scoreless inning pitched.
 

The DH sweep brings the Cannoneers overall record to 10-10 on the 2016 season with a Region III Eastern Division record of 2-2. The Cannoneers start a four game series with Columbia-Greene CC on Tuesday when they travel to Hudson, New York.
