Jefferson Baseball Sweeps Adirondack in their 2013 Home Opener
In their Home Opener Double Header, Jefferson Sails past Adirondack!
The season opener at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds featured Adirondack Community College who was 5-1 in the Region III Eastern Division and 3rd in the coaches poll entering into Tuesday.
Game 1: Adirondack 2 – JEFFERSON 6
In the first game of a double header sophomore starter Jacob Welch (Spencerport, NY) went 6 strong innings only allowing 3 hits, 1 earned up, and struck out 8 to earn his third victory of the season. Also on the mound freshmen Kyle Simmons (Watertown, NY) picked up a two out save marking his second save of the season.
At the plate for Jefferson sophomore Tyler Decker (Adams, NY) was 2-3 with 2 triples and 2 RBI driving in two important runs late in the game. Kyle Simmons (Watertown, NY) also provided 2 hits.
Game 2: Adirondack 0 – JEFFERSON 10
In the second game freshmen starter James Matthews (Camden, NY) went all 5 innings only allowing 1 hit, 1 walk, and striking out 6 to earn his first career college win. At the plate freshmen Kyle Simmons (Watertown, NY) recorded 3 hits with 2 RBI, freshmen Jason Hardie (Ajax, Ontario) had 2 hits and 4 RBI, and sophomore Nicolas Espino (Bronx, NY) had 2 hits with 2 stolen bases.
Jefferson is back in action Thursday playing at East Field in Glens Falls, NY with another double header versus Adirondack. Jefferson's next home double header is Saturday April 13th versus Fulton-Montgomery with the first pitch scheduled at 1pm.
