Winebar Named Jefferson Athlete of the Week

Watertown, NY— Sophomore forward, Cameron S. Winebar, of the Jefferson Community College (JCC) hockey team was named JCC athlete of the week for the week ending October 27, 2024. 

Cameron, a 2023 graduate of New Hanover High School in Wilmington, NC is majoring in Computer Information Systems.  This past weekend Cameron scored his 14^th goal of the season in a hard fought 4-2 loss to Niagara university.

Cameron’s leadership and commitment to athletics at JCC has earned him the spot as team Captain on the hockey team. 

Cameron is a talented and unselfish player who leads by example. He is a player that the coaches can count on to support the goals and objectives of the team day in and day out.  He is a quiet and humble leader whose approach to hockey is that the team comes before the individual player.

He has also volunteered to represent JCC Hockey in the community. This past weekend Cam volunteered with several of his teammates to support the open skate at the Haldane Arena.  At this event Cam and the JCC Team under his guidance as Captain, helped run the two-hour public skating session, serving as ice monitors, concession works and facilities staff.

On the ice Cam is a statistical leader as well.  He currently has 14 Goals and 9 Assist for a total of 23 Points. These numbers include two hat tricks and place Cam as one of the top 10 scorers in the country for all of AAU College Hockey.  Cam’s best performance of the year to date came when he scored an overtime game winning goal against conference rival Paul Smith’s College.  Cam’s contributions to the hockey team at JCC are among the best in a group of excellent players we have developed over the past two seasons.  Most of all, Cam is a teammate that is beloved and respected by the players and coaches on the hockey team.
