Jefferson Softball took on the Columbia Greene Softball Twins on Saturday as the last home game of the season and final push to earn a spot in Regional play, set to begin Tuesday May 10th. The first three innings in game one proved scoreless for each team as both defenses shut down offensive efforts. Columbia Greene opened the gates in the top of the fourth, beginning with a hit by Caitlin Pasco, her first of the game. The offense continued as the bases loaded, leading to a grand slam by Brooke Hapeman. The inning ended with a 7-0 lead by Columbia Greene. Jefferson plated their only run in the 6th by a sacrifice fly by Lauren Smith to avert the shut out in a 9-1 final score.
Jefferson came back strong in game two with a 4-3 win over the Twins. Beth Anne Neuschwander plated the first run of the game in the first inning off a single by Casey Webb. Columbia Greene's offense answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second. Veronica Mayhew and Karlee Deaver each recorded an RBI to bring the score to 2-1. Jefferson responded in the top of the third with 2 more runs. Casey Webb doubled to score Beth Anne Neuschwander, followed by a single by Taneisha Richey to score Webb. The game was tied 3-3 after the third as Jaime Staunch doubled to score the tying run. Jefferson's offense, however, remained alive and scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 6th as Richey and Lindsay Barton began the inning with two singles. Kalen Hyde scored Richey from third to bring JCC to the lead. Korie Clark was able to hold the Twins scoreless in the last 4 innings of the game, gaining the game two win for Jefferson. Casey Webb finished 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's and a run scored and Richey recorded 2 hits, an RBI and a run scored in the win. Clark went 7 strong on the mound to earn the complete game win.
Jefferson Softball will take on Onondaga Community College away on Tuesday in the first round of post-season Regional play.
