Jefferson Baseball Second Weekend in Maryland
Jefferson Baseball traveled to Maryland for a second time this past weekend.
This past weekend was another successful trip for the Jefferson Baseball team. We recorded our first win of the season against Division I Hagerstown Community College by winning 9-2. Josh Amann pitched a complete game and only allowing one earned run while only throwing 85 pitches. Saturday we faced Montgomery-Germantown who is ranked 11th in the nation in the DIII poll, and we lost 2-0 despite a 3 hit effort from sophomore pitcher Phil Ramos. Ramos struck out 9 hitters and did not give up an earned run which brings his season ERA to 1.08. Game two we lost on our 3rd walk off of the season 8-7 in the bottom of the 7th. Sunday we had another rematch with Frederick Community College who is now ranked 7th in the nation in the Division II poll. Game one we lost by a run which was the fourth walk off loss of the season 10-9. We had the bases loaded with one out in the top of the last inning but could not get a run across to score. We lost game two 8-3 to close out our Maryland 2012 trips.
Our trips this year came with "disappointing" success. We are now 1-11 on the year however with four walk off losses and missed opportunities we look forward to competing back in New York State. We were competitive in 9 out of 11 games, and played one of the toughest pre-season schedules in the country playing 8 out of 12 games where teams were ranked in the country.
As a side note, we get another shot at Frederick Community College in October 2012, in our first annual Cooperstown Classic at Doubleday Field at the Baseball Hall of Fame.
