Simmons and Goodall Named Jefferson Co-Athletes of the Week

Freshman runner, Margeaux C. Simmons of the Jefferson Community College (JCC) women’s cross country team, and sophomore runner Edward J. Goodall, of the Jefferson cross country team, were named JCC co-athletes of the week for the week ending October 29, 2017.  JCC's athlete of the week program is sponsored by Under Armour and Victory Promotions.

Margeaux, a 2016 graduate of Gouverneur High School, is majoring in Criminal Justice at Jefferson.  Simmons' accomplishments on the trail this past week include having a fantastically consistent season for the Cannoneers Cross Country Team.  After a strong race last week where she earned All-MSAC honors by finishing 4th she ran steady and strong this past Saturday at the NJCAA DIII Region III Cross Country Championships at Finger Lakes Community College.  She got a slow start but steadily moved up over the first half of the race positioning herself well for a strong finish.  She tackled the steep hill late in the race very well and stayed strong all the way through the finish for a 9th place overall finish earning herself All-NJCAA Region III honors with a time of 23:53.8 for the 5 kilometer course.

Edward, a 2016 graduate of The Scots College, Australia, is majoring in Physical Education at Jefferson.  Goodall’s accomplishment on the trail this past week included having a great race this past weekend at the NJCAA DIII Region III Cross Country Championships.  This past Saturday at the Finger Lakes CC course Ed went out quickly establishing himself near the front of the chase pack.  He latched on to some strong runners and hung tough coming through the first mile in about 10th place at 5 min 40 seconds.  By midrace he had moved up to 5th place and was looking comfortable.  The distance and a long tough hill took hold of him shortly after that and he dropped to 9th by the top of the hill but was determined to hold his ground against a group of very talented and experienced runners.  Ed finished the 8 kilometer race with a time of 31:22.4 and a 10th place finish in the region earning himself All-NJCAA Region III honors.
