Platt and Runyon Named Jefferson Co-Athletes of the Week

Christina Platt and Alexa Runyon Co-Athletes of the Week

Freshman runner, Christina N. Platt of the Jefferson Community College (JCC) women’s cross country team, and freshman middle blocker Alexa R. Runyon, of the Jefferson volleyball team, were named JCC co-athletes of the week for the week ending October 22, 2017.  JCC's athlete of the week program is sponsored by Under Armour and Victory Promotions.

Christina, a 2016 graduate of South Lewis High School, is majoring in Physical Education at Jefferson.  Platt’s accomplishments on the trail this past week despite being injured included establishing herself at the front from the gun and quickly built a 15 second lead after the first mile in the 2017 Mid-State Athletic Conference Championship Meet hosted by Finger Lakes Community College.  By the 2 mile mark Christina was a solid 40 seconds ahead of the next competitor.  She continued to run a strong race over the tough 5 kilometer course and easily won, finishing 50 seconds ahead of all other competitors.  She completed the course in 21:26!  She earned All-Conference honors and Mid-State Athletic Conference Runner of the Year!  Christina will face her toughest competition next week at Regionals against some of the toughest runners in NJCAA DIII at the NJCAA DIII Region 3 Cross Country Championship.

Alexa, a 2013 graduate of Poquoson High School, VA, is majoring in Mathematics and Science at Jefferson.  Runyon’s accomplishments on the court this past week included stepping up to help lead the Lady Cannoneers over Corning Community College in the Mid State Athletic Conference Volleyball Semi-Finals.  Alexa supplied 7 blocks and 9 kills in two matches.  She has been a driving force behind Jefferson’s wins late in the season and quickly sparks the team with her steady play at the net.
